Soil Secret #1

Here’s a secret everyone should know about. It’s called humic acid.

Humic acid is the acid naturally found in beneficial bacteria. It’s what they use to break down organic matter. This decomposed organic matter, or humus, is not only loaded with nutrients, but also makes nutrients in the soil available to plants that otherwise cannot be absorbed. Humus is the key to fertility.

Humic acid is mostly harvested from ancient peat bogs. As these bogs continued to develop pressure built up in the sub-strata soil layers, turning the soil bacteria into pure carbon. When the bacteria died off, the humic acid present inside them crystalized into a type of coal (it’s totally different then the kind you can burn). When this coal is taken and made into a water solution it becomes a concentrated form of humus, pure food for the organisms that live in your soil.
